Thompson-Twisp-Elbow Loop
Moderate-Difficult70% gravel, 25% paved, 5% singletrack. A classic loop through Thompson Road, Twisp River Road, and Elbow Coulee.
Hart's Pass to Slate Peak
DifficultThe highest road in Washington State. An epic gravel ride from Mazama to the summit. Open summer only.
Boulder Creek Loop
DifficultChallenging backcountry loop with big climbing and valley views. Open summer through fall.

Hwy 20 and Goat Creek Rd. Stop at the Mazama Store. Extend via Lost River Rd for more distance.
Washington Pass

Hwy 20 to the summit. In spring, the road is car-free during DOT plowing — an unforgettable experience.

Fat biking is a winter activity in the Methow Valley — riding on groomed snow trails through a quiet, white landscape. Several trails are groomed specifically for fat bikes.
Big Valley
EasyTwo groomed figure-eight loops. Family-friendly. Groomed approximately twice weekly. No pass required.
Gunn Ranch
Moderate8-mile roundtrip to the Grizzly Hut. Rolling terrain through beautiful forest. Methow Trails pass ($10).
Winthrop Fat Bike Trails

Yes! Several local shops offer high-quality mountain bike rentals, including full-suspension bikes. Methow Cycle & Sport in Winthrop and Sun Mountain Lodge both have rental fleets. E-bike rentals are also increasingly available.
The Methow Trails system is maintained by donations and trail passes. While summer trails don't require a pass, contributions help maintain this incredible resource. Discover Passes are required for parking at state land trailheads.
Absolutely! The valley path from Winthrop to Twisp is paved and family-friendly. Sun Mountain has green-rated trails perfect for beginners, and the lower elevation trails near town are great for building skills. Many locals learn to ride on the gentler Nordic trail conversions.
The season typically runs from late April through October, depending on snowmelt. June through September offers the most reliable conditions. Early season can be muddy, so check trail conditions before riding. Fall offers spectacular colors and fewer crowds.
