A Family Legacy
From One Vision to a Valley Legacy
In 1991, Linda Kimbrell — stepmother of Rachelle Kimbrell Weymuller — founded the biathlon program in the Methow Valley. The program was then built to national and international competition level by Leslie Hall (Olympian), Laura McCabe (Olympian, whose daughter is also now an Olympian), and Betsy Devin Smith (biathlon coach). World Cup and Olympic athletes have come out of the program. She founded it, but it is the others who made it what it is today, and the community has made it happen.
My daughter Eva went through both the Nordic and biathlon programs. The Nordic program prepares athletes in skiing and training, while biathlon shooting is coached through dedicated instructors. As athletes progress in middle school, many seek additional coaching outside the valley for broader expertise.
It takes someone with an idea and then the community comes together to make it a reality. This isn't just a sport here -- it's a community. When you buy a home in the Methow Valley, you're joining a place where these traditions run deep.
