Popular swimming spots include the Carlton swimming hole (a local favorite), the Twisp Town Park confluence area, and the Chewuch Campground swimming area. For lake swimming, Pearrygin Lake State Park has a sandy beach and is the warmest lake in the valley. The Wagner Memorial Pool in Twisp is a community pool option. The Methow Valley Killer Whales are the community swim team for competitive swimmers.

June through September is the primary water sports season. River rafting peaks in June and July when snowmelt keeps water levels high. Lake swimming is warmest in July and August. By September, water levels drop but lakes remain pleasant. In winter, ice fishing is possible on Patterson Lake and other valley lakes when conditions allow, and ice skating is available at the Winthrop Rink. Sailing and rowing on the lakes are also enjoyed during summer months.
